Install on Windows

Download the installer, get past SmartScreen, what gets installed where, release channels, updating, and how to cleanly uninstall atrium on Windows.

atrium ships a native Windows build as a per-user installer, atrium_<version>_x64-setup.exe. It installs without administrator rights. The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows shows a SmartScreen warning the first time you run it.

Download

  1. Open the Download page and click Download for Windows. The top-right Download button in the navigation bar serves the same installer to Windows visitors.
  2. Run the downloaded atrium_<version>_x64-setup.exe. If Windows shows Windows protected your PC, follow the SmartScreen steps below.
  3. The installer puts atrium in %LOCALAPPDATA%\atrium and adds a Start Menu shortcut.
  4. Launch atrium from the Start menu.

SmartScreen

Windows SmartScreen shows Windows protected your PC for installers that are not code-signed. To continue, click More info, then Run anyway.

System requirements

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit (x64).
  • About 900 MB for the installed app.
  • Additional space for the data directory (%USERPROFILE%\.atrium\), which grows with saved workspaces, transcripts, indexes, and captures.
  • Git for Windows. atrium runs agent adapter scripts through Git Bash, so adapters cannot launch without it.
  • The Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime, which atrium uses to render its UI. It ships with Windows 11 and the installer provisions it on Windows 10 when missing. If the UI fails to render, install the Evergreen WebView2 Runtime once.
These requirements are for the desktop client. atrium can also connect to Linux locations over SSH, including WSL2 and Intel or ARM Linux boxes.

What gets installed

  • The app: %LOCALAPPDATA%\atrium, with a Start Menu shortcut.
  • The CLI: the atrium CLI lives in %USERPROFILE%\.atrium\bin. atrium refreshes it and adds that directory to your user PATH on every launch, so terminals you open afterwards can run atrium with no manual setup. Its path is also exported as ATRIUM_CLI_PATH into every terminal pane.
  • The data directory: %USERPROFILE%\.atrium\ stores configuration, project snapshots, installed adapters, custom themes, and shell integration files. See Data directory for the full layout.

Channels

  • Public Beta is the only release available today. It updates frequently and ships directly from main.
  • Stable and Beta channels are planned after the 1.0 release, with isolated install locations and data directories.

Updating

atrium checks for updates on launch by default and installs them in place, the same as on macOS. Open Settings → Updates to see the version you're on and control when atrium checks for new ones.

Uninstall

  1. Quit atrium.
  2. Uninstall atrium from Settings → Apps → Installed apps (or the Start Menu uninstaller entry).
  3. Optionally remove the data directory: delete %USERPROFILE%\.atrium. This deletes all projects, snapshots, custom themes, and installed adapters.
